I’m down to my last few days here, and the experience has been absolutely amazing! I’m not sure if I could have gone on a better trip if someone had actually planned it.
The thing I’ll probably miss most (besides my bestie) is the food! It’s soooo tasty and good for you. Everything here is fresh and delicious. I eat like a pig pretty well everyday…. (would you expect anything less?) I’m going to miss all the different choices and spices and tastes and smells. I’ve eaten a lot of things here that have surprised me, and in an even more surprising twist, I’ve actually liked it! (shocking, I know… picky eater over here)
I’m not sure what I’ll do when I get home and have boring old Canadian foods… maybe branch out and try some more new things? It may work to my advantage!

"My first and only weekend in Korea was amazing. I went to a Seoul FC game (soccer), went out partying with pretty cool people (kareoke), and went to the burial grounds of the 19 kings.
Today, the first Sunday of May is considered to be a “sacraficial day” during the Josean Period and there was a ceremony performed in its honour.
It could not have been a more perfect day to go, sunny and beautiful, with great company, what more could you ask for? I’ve met a lot of great people since I’ve been here and I can only hope that they will be friendships that can grow over time!
I’m loving all the amazing experiences, but I must say…. having Subway today REALLY made me miss home."
Today has been my favorite day thus far. We woke up early and decided to go on a bit of a trek up the mountain. To say that it was beautiful and breathtaking is an understatement. I have never seen anything like it before.
The trails are lined with lanterns and walls that go around the temples. The temples are absolutely stunning. Between the hand crafted and painted gates, to the beautiful carvings, I’m really not sure what I enjoyed most.
As we were hiking up we were treated with the sounds of the monks drumming. It was unlike anything I have ever heard before and it was amazing to be able to listen in.
I can not wait for the opportunity to explore their culture further. It’s so rich and interesting, I’m absolutely in love with it.

So it’s been 2 days officially since I’ve been here, and needless to say I’m in love. Everyone in Uijeongbu has been very nice and curteous, it’s been great!
Today was my first day out in the city, you can see mountains all around you and it’s absolutely breathtaking. We took the subway, grabbed breakfast, went shopping, and figured out some key phrases I needed to know when I’m out and about on my own. (which has thus far been a success)
We finished off the day playing pool, drinking beers, and playing darts!
Can’t wait to see what day number 3 has in store!

What a day….

After 16 hours I finally arrived in Uijeongbu, South Korea! It was a tiring, long trip filled with ups and downs and a total of 5 hours of sleep in the last 48 hours! To say I’m exhausted is an understatement. My first “day” (I arrived here at 3:30 Korean time) has involved McDonalds, walking across rocks on the river and going to 2 bars and meeting some of the locals! Now, I plan on going into a mini coma! EXHAUSTED!!

2 more days before I set off for an adventure of a life time!! To say I’m excited is the understatement of the year. I got even more excited when I added Seoul, Korea to my weather app and realized that when I arrive it will be in the mid twenties! Much better than the single digits that have been hanging around town lately. Let’s hope it’s there to stay!

I’m typically pretty spontaneous but because I’m only going to be there for 2 weeks I thought I’d try to plan ahead! (so unlike me, I know) The phrase book is great, I’ve all ready marked off pages that I think will be useful… Such as “I’m lost” = ki-rül i-rõss-õ-yo, I didn’t choose that phrase until I saw a detailed map of their subway system! Wish me luck, nine days and counting!

Getting Started

In 11 days I start my journey to South Korea! I’m super excited to soak up the culture and share all my experiences! Stay tuned!
